Africa, Dear Africa
A Safari Diary by Patrice Walters – On Tour with Outdoor Africa
Between Tembe and our next destination, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve and Hilltop Camp, River took us to an open market where there were massive amounts of beautiful handcrafted wares as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. I’m grateful for River’s patience while I explored this vast market, picking out gifts to take back home. We bought a couple of fresh pineapples which they cut the rind off of and left the stem attached so we could eat it like a popsicle. Sweetest. Pineapple. Ever.
Sightings and Exploring in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, South Africa
The panoramic views at Hilltop are magnificent! Down to our last 2 days with River, he made the most of our remaining time with him by playing some of his favorite music, which turned out to be some of our favorites as well. This was a nice touch to our last few game drives as we spotted Buffalo, Rhino, Elephants, Duiker, and more Baboons up to their silly mischief.
Goodbyes to River and off to Cape Town, South Africa
Departing Hluhluwe, our drive to Durban was a little solemn. River has had our back this whole journey. We felt safe, confident, secure, and had a ton of fun! We know it’s not going to be the same without him. BEST. GUIDE. EVER! We met as clients, quickly became friends, and parted as family. He’s stuck with us for life now. Somehow, I avoided ugly crying when he left us at the airport.
And the journey continues…
